Protection from Loss of Voice paintings began after multiple visits to the Arms and Armor collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During my visits, I was struck by the beauty of the intricately carved metal surfaces and the deep dark space of each helmet where a human life has once been.

In my own set of armor, consisting of painted helmets, shields, tubes and cloaks, I used a recurring circular pattern from my previous Certain Dark Things paintings to adorn each piece. I painted the surfaces to look like a combination of distressed metal and warm skin.

My interest for this series lies in the questions of how we protect ourselves both physically and psychologically alongside each other and in concert with nature.
