Continuing with the use of black and the theme of protective coverings, this group of circular canvases is an extension of my Certain Dark Things series named from a line in Pablo Neruda's Sonnet XVII. It steps outside the painting of a picture on a rectangle and into the painting of an actual object. The beveled edge of the round canvas acts in concert with the materiality of paint to create the illusion of a sphere wrapped in various weighted materials like cement, and oxidized copper.
